Indian man survives extraction of two metre iron rod from his body

02 September 2010 [17:35] - TODAY.AZ
An Indian man in Dubai survived a massive surgery to remove a two-metre-long iron rod that penetrated his body in an accident, daily newspaper Emirates Today reported Thursday.

The iron rod fell 10 stories before it hit 34-year-old construction worker Saran Kumar on Monday, penetrating his shoulder, passing through his abdomen and out of his thigh, DPA reported.

The rod broke through his diaphragm, a lung, and passed through his colon and bladder.

A team of doctors at Dubai's Rashid Hospital performed the complicated surgery during which the rod was very slowly removed in order not to further damage Kumar's organs and arteries.

Doctors also repaired Kumar's internal injuries.

Kumar is said to be in stable condition, and is set to be released from the hospital in ten days.
