Azerbaijani president opens Education and Therapeutic Clinic of Azerbaijan Medical University - UPDATE - PHOTOS

President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated an education and therapeutic clinic of the Azerbaijan Medical University on October 1. The ceremony was also attended by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. Educational and therapeutic clinic, built in accordance with the presidential order dated September 11, 2007, is a unique university clinic, combining research, treatment and diagnostic work.

Fully computerized clinic is designed for diagnosis and treatment of medical, pediatric and neurological diseases in line with modern international standards.

Modern equipment manufactured by leading world companies has been installed by a local company ARASH Medisal. The total area of 14-storey hospital is 25 thousand square meters. The hospital has stationary units with capacity of 400 beds and a consultative and diagnostic department. In addition, the clinic is able to offer outpatient care to 300-350 patients during a day.

Along with the medical work, an education process will also be organized in the building. The clinic features 15 clinical departments. Third and fourth year students will be taught therapy, pediatrics, family medicine, neurology, clinical pharmacology, physiotherapy, beam diagnostics and clinical chemistry in eight lecture halls with 2,140 seats and in about 70 classrooms.

In addition, the clinic will train highly qualified personnel through residency and doctoral programs. The Centre for Medical Training has been created at the clinic in order to increase visibility of the learning process where one can simulate 18 complex diseases and their complications.

The president met with teachers and students of Azerbaijan Medical University and congratulated them on the opening of a new academic building.

Accompanied by his wife Mehriban Aliyeva, the Head of State cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the clinic and then viewed it. The facility was established in accordance with the President's Executive Order dated September 11, 2007. The clinic features educational, therapeutic, research, treatment and diagnostics departments.

The 14-storied clinic occupies a total area of 25,000 square meters. Along with stationary patients, the 400-bead facility will also serve nearly 350 people on a daily outpatient basis. It also has 15 clinical departments, 70 classrooms and 8 lecture halls with the total capacity of 2,140 people. The clinic also houses a medical training center.

The President spoke with the Azerbaijan Medical University's students and teaching staff.
