Azerbaijan to host first ever ecological marathon

First Baku Ecological Marathon will be held for the first time in Azerbaijan from December 2010 to March 2011 by the Baku Youth and Sports Department with the support of a number of ministries and organizations. Numerous ecological events will be organized as part of the marathon, the Baku Youth and Sports Department said.

The marathon aims at environmental education and promoting healthy lifestyle among people of different age.

It is planned to hold contest of poems, drawings (including both by professional artists and amateurs), posters and slogans on the theme "Environment and I" with no age restrictions.

Moreover, an event entitled "Health and Environment" involving environmental specialists, doctors, school teachers and representatives of colleges and universities will be held for children and their parents and youth. The marathon will also feature a street race called the "Sport and Environment". The race is open to both professional and amateur athletes aged 10 years of age and over.

An exhibition will also be organized based on results of the contest. The winners will be presented with valuable gifts.
