Azerbaijan's Consul General in Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov and Vice-Consul of the Consulate General Ramil Gurbanov visited the city of San Diego.
The trip took place upon the invitation of the inhabitants of the urban area Switzer who are interested in establishing bilateral relations with one of the districts of Baku. Azerbaijani diplomats met with the leadership of San Diego public TV and got acquainted with the work of the architectural group "Public", which specializes in the design of public buildings and parks.
Speaking at a meeting with the faculty of the State University of San Diego, Suleymanov talked about the old traditions of tolerance in Azerbaijani society and emphasized the country’s leading role in a key geostrategic region. He also emphasized Azerbaijani leadership’s policies aimed at intensifying the dialogue between cultures and civilizations.
During the visit, the diplomats took part in the Azerbaijani culture event held at the restaurant "Café 21". Official greetings from one of the San Diego leaders Ron Roberts and San Diego City Councilman of Todd Gloria were read out at the event. In his statement, Mr. Gloria recalled that first democratic republic in the Muslim world was established in Azerbaijan and declared the "Day of Azerbaijan” in the third district of San Diego.
Earlier, Consul General Suleymanov spoke at the Center for European Union at the Scripps College in Claremont, California. In his speech, the Azerbaijani diplomat highlighted the failure of ethnic radicalism, chauvinism, and the policy of double standards to achieve success in integration processes into Europe.
