New Olympia complexes will be built

Azerbaijan plans to open 11 Olympia complexes within next 2 years, Minister of Youth and Sport Azad Rahimov said at the board on announcing 2012 as Year of Sport in Azerbaijan

He said sport is very popular in Azerbaijan. For example, over 800 young people are signed up for judo group.

"All conditions are created in Azerbaijan for youth doing sport," Mr Rahimov said.

There are 33 Olympia complexes in the country and it is planned that 11 more complexes will be opened during 2 next years.

The main sport events of 2012 are the Summer Olympics in London and FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup to be held in Azerbaijan. Work on election of Azerbaijan as a host of 2020 Summer Olympics is also underway.
