'Azerbaijan should strengthen its positions in world sport arena '

Attitude to sport should change in Azerbaijan, vice president of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Chingiz Huseynzadeh said at the board on announcing 2012 as the Year of Sport in Azerbaijan on Friday.

He said not only sport specialists but also all the Azerbaijani public should popularize sport. "Worldwide art is closely connected with sport. Movies are shut, exhibitions on sportsmen are held. We also urge art workers to popularize sport," he said.

Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture dedicated to Azerbaijani sport will be organized in Baku in Feb, Mr Huseynzadeh said. The most interesting works will be exhibited in the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne.

The vice president of the NOC offered to establish sport studio in Azerbaijan. "This studio will deal with shooting films on sport, documentation of achievements and successes in sport," he said.

Mr Huseynzadeh said Azerbaijan should strengthen its positions in the world sport arena in the Year of Sport. In accordance with the order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dated Jan.16 2012 was announced in Azerbaijan as the 'Year of Sport'.
