State Social Protection Fund of Azerbaijan awards retired gymnasts - PHOTOS

"The intensive development of sport and achievements in this field in Azerbaijan were made possible due to consistent and purposeful policy," SSPF chairman Salim Muslimv said at an event dedicated to 8 March International Women's Day.

According to Muslimov, who congratulated former gymnasts on the holiday, thanks to the leadership of the Heads of National Olympic Committee, President Ilham Aliyev, glorious pages have been written in the history of Azerbaijan's sport over the past ten years.

"Achievements in sports are obvious. Within short period, our athletes defended the sports honor of Azerbaijan in the Olympic Games, gained new victories," said the chairman of the Fund.

He said that a serious fracture occurred in the development of the sport like gymnastics over the recent years. "However, thanks to fruitful activities of the Gymnastics Federation, gymnastics has become one of the fastest growing kinds of sports. It is impossible to deny the role of the retired gymnasts in the fact that gymnastic traditions in Azerbaijan continue to live," said Muslimov.

Making speeches at the event, the former gymnast said that the social problems of athletes are constantly on the focus of attention of the state in Azerbaijan. Chairman of the Veterans Council of the Gymnastics Federation Arif Guliyev and the gymnasts expressed their gratitude for the care and attention by the Gymnastics Federation President, First Lady of Azerbaijan Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva.
