Azerbaijan names best sportsmen, coach, referee and sports specialists of year

Azerbaijan`s best sportsmen, coaches, referees and sports specialists for 2010 have been announced in a solemn ceremony here on Thursday.

Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov named the best 10 sportsmen of the year.
The winners included Greco-roman wrestler Hasan Aliyev, free-style wrestler Khetag Gazyumov, rowers Sergey Bezugliy and Maxim Prokopenko, judo fighter Elkhan Mammadov, gymnast Aliya Garayeva, taekwondo fighter Tavakkul Bayramov, boxer Elvin Mamishzadeh, weightlifter Nijat Rahimov, karate fighter Rafael Agayev and kickboxer Parviz Abdullayev.
Garabagh football club was named the best team of the year.

In other nominations: Idman Azerbaijan channel won the best TV company, ANS commentator Mehman Rasulov won the best sports journalist, 1news.az won the best agency, Dilgam Guliyev won the best sports publicist, Neftchi Sports and Health Center won the best sports society, Yashar Mammadov won the most active veteran, Sarhadchi Sports Olympic Complex won the best sports complex, Ajdar Jafarov won the best referee, Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation won the best federation, manager of Greco-roman team Vagif Fezullayev won the best coach and Elman Guliyev won the best doctor.

AzerTAc`s journalist Ziyadkhan Hasanov has been presented with a diploma of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said Azerbaijani sportsmen garnered 675 medals in 2010.

Vice president of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade stressed achievements of Azerbaijan`s sportsmen in the Singapore Youth Olympic Games.
