Aliya Garayeva reaches Sunday's both individual finals of Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships

An official opening ceremony of the 27th Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships was held in Minsk on Friday. It was followed by performances of strong individual gymnasts from A group.

Gymnasts from Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Spain, Italy, Austria and Israel showed to jury their performances with a ball and a hoop on the "Minsk-Arena" carpet. On the first day of competition, Russian gymnast Yevgeniya Kanayeva leads with 58.525 points. The Belarusian gymnast Lubov Cherkashina ranked second (56.775 points), while the Azerbaijani gymnast Aliya Garayeva ranked third (55.650 points). The leaders are followed by Melitina Staniouta from Belarus (55.375 points) and Neta Rivkin from Israel (55.325 points).

After the first day of the competition Azerbaijan ranks fourth with 106.075 points in the team event, yielding to Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. As a result of two qualifications with a hoop and a ball made Aliya Garayeva reached both individual finals on Sunday.

On Saturday, May 28 competition in rhythmic gymnastics in Minsk will continue with junior group performances and individual exercises (clubs and ribbon) of seniors, as well as first awarding of winners will take place.
