In 2015, a deep crisis awaits Armenia, said a member of the Heritage party during the press conference, MP Zarui Postanjan, Armenia Today information agency said.
Summing up the results of 2014, the MP called ratification of the treaty of accession of Armenia into the EAU as the most unwelcome event of 2014.
“I think that this event will become a historical fact in the further development of the Armenian Republic,” said Postanjan. “We saw an aggressive policy from the part of Russia, and this aggression in fact hasn’t received an appropriate confrontation. If the Armenian people protested the decision of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan from September 3, the treaty would not have been signed. Armenia's membership in the EAU is leading the country towards regression. Even if this union doesn’t work, suck kind of integration portends a deep crisis for such a small country like Armenia.”
Postanjan also said she doesn’t have any expectations from 2015, noting that in the coming year Armenia will have a deep crisis not only in the economic sphere, but also in political life.
“I'm not going to make any predictions and limit myself to further actions of the three countries,” she said. “But one thing is clear, the political and economic turning point awaits the Armenian people. And we must be ready to face the consequences of this inevitable crisis.”
The EAU agreement was signed by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on May 29, 2014 in Astana, and will enter into force on Jan. 1, 2015. Armenia signed an agreement October 10, 2014. Parliaments of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan have already ratified the treaty on accession of Armenia to the EAU.
