Maternal instinct is a kind of nature's program laid in women from birth preparing them psychologically for motherhood.
Since childhood, girls mainly play with dolls and take care of them, hoping to become a mother soon.
But when they grow up and reach adulthood, not all of them are in a hurry to have a baby, and take care of their child as they did about their dolls in childhood.
Some women forget about this occupation for a long time and return to it only at higer age becoming roughly saying:“grandmothers”.
So, what age is appropriate for you to have a baby? 20, 30 or 40?
Earlier, the State Statistics Committee said that the number of births by women aged 50 and older has increased in Azerbaijan. In 2013, women aged 50 and older gave birth to 46 children in the country.
Comparing this figure with that in 1995 that was six, we can see a significant growth in the numbner of those who don't consider their age too late for a childbirth.
Of course, the final decision is taken only by women, but doctors believe that it is better to give birth at a younger age, when the body has a maximum power and robust immunity.
Gila Najafova, a gynecologist, says an ideal period for childbirth stands from 22 to 30 years.
"Children of women, who give birth later, may be born with chromosomal disorders such as Down syndrome. The later woman think about it the harder pregnancy and childbirth run," she said.
However, sometimes, a situation dictates its terms and year by year more and more women are delaying childbirth "for later".
So, why do some women give birth later than it is considered to be appropriate? What could be the reasons encouraging them not to hurry to become a mother?
One of the reason is safeness. Prenatal studies have reduced the risk of forty-year women to give birth to children, as do younger mothers.
New advances in medicine allow women, suffering from chronic diseases or in severe cases of pregnancy, to give birth to normal and healthy children. That’s why some women think that they still have time to become a mother.
Many women do not feel themselves emotionally ready to give birth at a young age. They claim that motherhood takes a lot of time, as with the birth of a child sleepless nights begin, and your own life would remain in the background. So, when you're young, it is better to enjoy life.
Earlier in Azerbaijan, it was the norm to have a baby immediately after marriage and now many women assure that they are not ready for it, as they want to live a little carefree and get used to married life.
Hajar Shiralizada, who is waiting for her firstborn, said that she did not even think to wait a few years to have a baby. “If you planned to get married, then probably you thought about next thing that is baby. In addition, baby makes a family happy and brings joy into the house,” she noted.
But, why the trend is changing?
One of the main reasons is that parents want to give their children a better future. Young family does not always have a decent capital to support three members, as they wish.
If you ask, so why some years ago people didn't think about maternal side of this issue and motherhood was the duty and responsibility of every woman, the answer probably will be that featuers of the “developing world”.
Today, new technologies and emergence of variety of facilities for children have create different issues to be pondered on by parents.
That’s why some families want to settle financial issue before having children and this is raising the motherhood age year by year.
In addition, employment is turning into a priority for most women. However, the situation in Azerbaijan is not so bad, as in many other countries. A survey conducted in 2011 on the national web-sites of Moyazarplata in Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan comforts us.
Some 45% respondents of the survey titled “Have you ever give up the giving birth because of your job” were from Azerbaijan. More than half of the respondents (55%) said they rejected their job in favor of a child.
Azerbaijan took the last place in the survey in terms of the number of people who postpone childbearing for the sake of a career.
However, not everything depends on a person. Some women feel their maternal instinct after 30 years. Psychologists believe that society can also affect the maternal instinct.
