Farmers can use drones for improving irrigation

Azerbaijan's Agriculture Ministry intends to use special unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to help farmers to improve the irrigation and get better crops.

AZDynamics, an Azerbaijani company that manufactures drones of various capabilities for local needs, told Trend that the drones will be equipped with a special sensor to scan the fields and select the optimum altitude for uniform spraying of water or fertilizers.

“The drones are equipped with the automatic flight mode due to which there is no need in the remote control,” the company said. “It is enough to indicate trajectory and coordinates of the area on the map. Currently, the possibility of supplying drones to the Ministry of Agriculture in being considered, which will use them for the needs of farmers.”

Last December, Azerbaijan presented its first domestic-made drone entitled Simurq. The aircraft was unveiled at the First Republican Exhibition of Intellectual Property and Innovations held in Baku.

The Simurq drone can be used in various industries, for example, in cartography, emergency situations and agriculture. It has an effective camera and stabilization system. The radius of the surveillance of the device reaches 10 kilometers. Simurq is able to work 17-30 minutes in the off-line mode.

Such aircrafts can be used in many other areas. Many countries use drones in different ways. In Japan, the drones are used on the rice fields. High definition image makes it possible to pinpoint the problem areas of a field.

In Mexico, the devices are used not only in agriculture, but also in the fight against drug trafficking.

Some other countries use drones to patrol their borders, to monitor construction projects and to deliver medicines to remote areas.
