COP29 Session highlights role of technology and fair access in combating climate change

At COP29, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis hosted a key session on leveraging technology to address climate change and ensure equitable access for all, Azernews reports.

Moderated by MP Fariz Ismayilov, the session focused on the transformative potential of technologies like artificial intelligence in advancing climate action, while also exploring how parliaments can ensure these technologies are used safely, responsibly, and inclusively.

Discussions emphasized that innovation is vital for combating climate change, but also stressed that technology must be deployed in a way that ensures fair access, particularly in developing countries. Speakers highlighted that technology is a powerful tool, but its benefits must be shared equitably across all nations.

The session also underscored the importance of collaboration among governments, businesses, and civil society to reduce climate impacts and build a more sustainable, just future. Expanding international cooperation on climate policy was also identified as a key strategy for achieving global climate goals.
