Russia to sell electricity to Azerbaijan on previous terms

01 December 2006 [00:17] - TODAY.AZ
Russia's RAO UES (Unified Energy Systems) has agreed to provide electrical energy to Azerbaijan on previous terms from December 1.

"RAO UES told us it agrees to supply electricity to Azerbaijan on the previous terms and the electricity supply will not be stopped tomorrow. We want to make the talks official in an agreement," Azerenergy Vice-president Marlen Asgarov told APA.

Azerenergy plans to import Iranian electricity supplies or use its own potential if talks with Russia yield no result.

Asgarov said Azerbaijan has enough gas and mazut (fuel oil) to generate adequate electricity in the country.

At present Russia charges Azerbaijan 3.6 cents for per kilowatts of electricity, supplying 300 megawatts in peak consumption period, but ROA EES warned Azerbaijan that it would provide 60 megawatts by 4.6 cents per kilowatt.

Azerenergy wants the amount and prices of electrical energy imports to remain unchanged.
