Talented Azerbaijani painters Maryam Alakbarli and Rashad Mehdiyev have been awarded with Vera prize in the Russian capital.

The presentation ceremony held in the Theatre Et Cetera was dedicated to the results of the 6th Moscow International Festival of Art “Traditions and Contemporaneity”.

Opening the ceremony, president of the Moscow Public Fund of Support of Culture and Development of the Modern Art Vera Kiselyova thanked all painters demonstrating their works in the festival.

She noted that the festival`s aim is to discover new names in modern art, and that jury elected 22 winners in different nominations.

Chairman of the Presidium of the International Fund “World for Culture and Peace” Mark Leyvikov said “today`s awards would go to the bests of the bests”.

Azerbaijani talented artist Maryam Alakbarli was honored with a bronze statuette and diploma for her “Rose, rose, rose” art piece in the “For new view” nomination. The young artist expressed her gratitude for the award.

“Maryam lives with art. Maybe that`s why her painting message is so strong and persuasive,” Olga Sviblova, curator of Maryam Alakbarli at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, said.
The visitors compared Maryam`s style with French artist Henry Matisse, a French artist known for his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship.

Another talented artist Rashad Mehdiyev won “For national liberty” nomination for his work “Leila”.

The jury praised his works, saying they merge traditional Azerbaijani paintings with innovation.
The international jury of festival is headed by the People`s Artist of the USSR, Russia and Azerbaijan, vice-president of the Russian Academy of Arts Tahir Salahov, whose works are also shown at the festival.

The festival was organized by the Moscow Public Fund of Support of Culture and Development of the Modern Art under the aegis of UNESCO and with support of the Department of Culture of Moscow, Committee on Culture of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the International Fund “World for Culture and Peace” and the Russian Academy of Arts.

“Vera” (Faith) is the first award in the sphere of fine arts in Russia.
