The 2nd international pianists contest as part of the 3rd international music festival has started in Gabala. The contest is organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The contest brings together talented pianists aged up to 35 from US, Azerbaijan, China, Korea, Turkey, Georgia, Japan, Mexico and Ukraine. Azerbaijan was represented by Nargiz Kangarli. Participants will perform music pieces by Azerbaijani and western European composers, as well as “Gaytagi” by prominent Azerbaijani composer Tofig Guliyev.
The first round of the contest featuring three sections will be held on July 15-16, while the second round and the third rounds on July 17-18 and July 19-20 respectively. The contest winners accompanied by the Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli will give a final concert on July 22. The contest`s jury panel includes world famous musicians from Spain, Italy, Georgia, Azerbaijan, US, Norway, Mexico, Korea, Great Britain, Israel and China. The jury panel is headed by honored academician of the UN International Arts Academy, professor of the Juliana Music Academy of the United States Oksana Yablonskaya.
The first international contest of pianists was held in Gabala in 2009.
