Marissa Mayer's fighting spirit has prevailed, with new figures showing Yahoo! beat Google to become the most visited website in the US in July.
This is the first time Yahoo! has come out on top of search giant Google since April 2011, according to comScore.
Yahoo! sites had 196.5 million unique US visitors last month compared with Google's 192 million – a difference of 4.5 million.
The data showed that Yahoo! sites were seen by 87 per cent of the 225 million US internet users in July.

Despite the company's acquisition of popular blogging site Tumblr for $US1.1 billion ($1.22 billion) in May, Yahoo! gained the top spot without incorporating Tumblr's figures.
Tumblr was ranked separately as the 28th most popular site in the US, with 38 million visitors in July.
The figures reflect only the number of visitors to each of the company's various websites, and not how many people use their search engines.
Google continues to dominate in search, with 67 per cent of that market in June, according to comScore. Microsoft's search engine, Bing, ranked second with 17 per cent of search engine traffic in the US, and Yahoo! came in third with 12 per cent.
Mayer, a former Google executive, was appointed president and chief executive of Yahoo! in July last year. She has made sweeping changes at the ailing internet giant, including a ban on telecommuting and extending maternity leave.
In July, the company reported a 13 per cent drop in advertising revenue and 9 per cent decline in search revenue for the second quarter, but posted a 46 per cent gain in profit compared with July 2012, shortly after Mayer took over.
