Siberian policeman 'eats traffic bribe'

A policeman has been arrested after allegedly taking a bribe from a traffic offender and then eating it when he was found out.

According to AFP, Siberian police captain Alexei Nikolayev extorted a 2,000 ruble (£45) sum from the driver, who later tipped off other officers.

When Nikolayev was detained on picking up the bribe, he reportedly locked himself in his police car and ate the evidence.

Investigators said: "[He] ate the received money - a 1,000-ruble note and two 500-ruble notes." The investigation is ongoing.
