Fish with 'human-like teeth' bites man

28 September 2010 [16:43] - TODAY.AZ
A man has been bitten by a fish whose teeth closely resemble those of humans.
Frank Yarborough had been on a fishing trip on Lake Wylie on September 6 when he caught the unusual specimen, WBTV reports. The fish then clamped down on his thumb with its human-like teeth.

Robert Stroud, freshwater fisheries biologist with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, said: "This fish is more than likely a common species of Pacu, Colossama macropomum, originating from the Amazon River basin of South America and is quite common in the aquarium trade."

He added that the fish, which is distantly related to the piranha family, was 19.4 inches long and weighed five pounds - making it the largest of its kind found in that lake.

It is believed that the warm water fish, which was taken home by Yarborough and is now kept in his freezer, was raised domestically and released when it got too large.
