A teenager in China has purchased an Apple iPad 2 after selling his right kidney.
Zheng, 17, used the internet to find a kidney-selling agent. He then made his way to a hospital in Chenzhou, a city in the Hunan province, without his family's knowledge to undergo an illegal operation.
The boy received 22,000 Chinese yuan (£2,000 / $3,400) for his organ and spent his money on an iPad 2 and iPhone, reports the Global Times.
"I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it", said Zheng. "A broker contacted me on the internet and said he could help me sell one kidney for 20,000 yuan."
He eventually confessed what he had done after his mother saw him with the new Apple products.
The hospital has distanced itself from the surgery, claiming that it only contracted out its urology department to a businessman. Though Zheng's mother reported the crime, police have been unable to find the kidney-selling agent.
