An investigation has been launched after a man flew from New York to Los Angeles without a valid passport or ID and a boarding pass that belonged to someone else.
The passenger, Olajide Noibi, got on the Virgin America Flight 415 at JFK Airport last Friday. It was not until the flight was in the air that crew realised there was an extra passenger on board.
When challenged, he showed an expired boarding pass that did not belong to him.
It appears that when the flight landed, Noibi got off the plane and spent several days in the Los Angeles area. Days later, on Wednesday, Noibi went back to LAX and tried to board a Delta flight bound for Atlanta, again with an expired boarding pass in another name and no valid ID.
There are reports that airport officials discovered up to ten expired boarding passes in his bag, none of them in his name.
The FBI says he was arrested at the airport and made a brief court appearance.
He is due in court again on Friday, July, 1, charged with being a stowaway.
Passengers are supposed to show valid ID and a boarding pass at airport security checkpoints.
The Transport Security Administration says Noibi was screened before he got on the flight. The organisation declined to comment further due to the ongoing FBI investigation into the incident.
