Man saves for 15 years to buy lawnmower

16 July 2011 [12:00] - TODAY.AZ
Brian McPherson, 20, started saving for a sit-on lawn mower at the age of 14 after buying a hockey stick from his local Canadian Tire store.

The company gives out Canadian Tire money – coupons which resemble real currency and can be saved up to purchase items in the store.

After receiving a 10 cents coupon with his first purchase, McPherson kept saving until he became a ‘Candian Tire thousand-aire.’

‘I thought it'd be a good idea to save up all the money and buy what at that time was the most expensive thing in the store, which was a riding lawn mower,’ he told the Edmonton Sun.

‘This is one of those things that you set the goal when you (were a kid) and told your friends and family about what you were saving this ridiculous amount of Canadian Tire money for.’

After 15 years of purchasing ‘pretty much anything you can buy at Canadian Tire’ McPherson has finally reached his $1,000 target, so is all set to claim his prize.

The store’s manager says he has seen a cash-in of more than a thousand dollars just once or twice in his 20 years at the company.
