Student finishes exam while in labor

Elana Nightingale Dawson, 29, started a three-hour afternoon exam on Wednesday when she went into labor, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Contractions were 20 to 30 minutes apart initially, but Dawson chose to rush through and complete the exam so she wouldn't fail her paper.

Dawson said: "I thought if I put my head in my hands and breathe deeply and do what I learned in [birthing] class, I would get through it.

"My goal was to get through the exam as fast as I could and leave, barring anything happening that made me think there was something more imminent going on."

Two hours after finishing her exam early, Dawson's son, named Wilson, was born with her husband present. The baby weighed 6lbs 6oz.
