Russians living near Mount Klyuchevskaya Sopka were given a scare recently when they looked up and saw what appeared to be a flying saucer hovering over the mountain, but they needn't have worried because it wasn't actually a UFO but instead a rare cloud formation.
The strange phenomena known as a Lenticular cloud or cap cloud raised eyebrows and set off the antennas of every UFO conspiracist in Russia.
You couldn't blame locals if they momentarily thought they were under siege from an alien race. The odd clouds looked like they were from the Mars Attacks movie.
But concerns were laid to rest when it was revealed that ET hadn't landed and Mount Klyuchevskaya Sopka was just experiencing a rare event, which occurs when moist air flows over mountains.
The amazing picture was captured by photographer Ivan Dementievskiy, 35, who was touring the area.
He said: 'I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted this cloud - it was so special and the people who live near it said they have never seen it before.
'The sky suddenly seemed to open up and this UFO shape appeared. I have been a photographer for more than ten years and it's one of the few times I have been completely amazed.
'It was one of those moments I'll never forget.'
