Vardan Oskanian: “Armenia and Azerbaijan achieved considerable rapprochement on principal issues”

“Armenia and Azerbaijan achieved considerable rapprochement on principal issues of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict today,” Vardan Oskanian, the Armenian Foreign Minister, said to journalists after the workshop ‘Safety in the South Caucasus’ organized by the PA NATO and Armenian National Assembly in Yerevan.
Oskanian meant the further status of Nagorno-Karabakh, problems of territory and safety under ‘principal issues’. The Minister stressed that there was no new ready package, but certain ideas. According to Oskanian, written document may appear after thorough discussion of the elements. He advised to wait for the parliamentary elections to be held in Azerbaijan, after which OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen will intensify the negotiations.

Touching upon the statement of his Azerbaijani counterpart about agreement on mine clearance, he said that there was no any written agreement. The Armenian Minister also mentioned that the OSCE Minsk Group held exclusive mandate for regulation of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
