The General Committee, responsible for organization of the work of UN General Assembly, rejected a request by member-states of GUAM, a regional organization uniting Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, on bringing on agenda of 60th session a new item on interference-fit conflict in the Black Sea-South Caucasus region and their outcomes for the international world, security and development.

The proposal gained support of 3 of 28 members of the General Committee – Azerbaijan the UK and the United States, while 5 countries - Russia, Armenia, Angola, Myanmar and Venezuela were against. The rest abstained. The General Committee is comprised of the chairman of the General Assembly, his 21 deputies and heads of the major committees.

The GUAM members consider that the international mediation in the resolution of interference-fit conflicts in the Black Sea-South Caucasus region yielded no results. Therefore, they suggested mulling the issue in the 60th session of the UN General Assembly in the priority order. The GUAM assures that the interference-fit conflicts in the eastern region of Moldova, Abkhazia and Tskinval region, South Osetia in Georgia and Nagorno-Karabakh represents serious danger to the international peace and security, excites danger for sovereignty and territorial integrity of the three UN countries.

The General Committee will submit to the recommendations concerning the adoption of the agenda, distribution of the issues on committees and organization of the work of the Assembly.
