Araz Azimov: “Azerbaijani side advocates meeting not for the sake of meeting but for achieving a result”

Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov held a press conference on the conclusions of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs’ visit to the region.
The official of MFA stated that the current situation on the regulation of the Nagorno Garabagh conflict and further steps to be taken in this field were discussed in the meetings conducted by OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in Baku.

It was also suggested to organize the meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents in late  January early February: “There should be a serious ground for the meeting of the Presidents, Ilham Aliyev considers this suggestion serious”-said Araz Azimov, not excluding that the Foreign Ministers will meet before the Presidents.

He also emphasized that Azerbaijani side advocates meeting not for the sake of meeting but for achieving a result.

Stating that successful steps are expected to be taken in the field of regulating the conflict in 2006, the deputy Minister stressed the importance of benefiting from these opportunities properly.

“Azerbaijan demonstrating a constructive position as usual, advocates resolving the conflict by the way of talks, in the framework of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and international law norms”.

Commenting on 9-member High Level of Planning Group’s visit to the region, Araz Azimov explained it by some active processes observed in the process of talks. According to him, the aforesaid group left the region after having investigated the situation there.
