Iran proposes strategic partnership to Azerbaijan

Development of strategic cooperation based on geographically important location corresponds both to the bilateral interests and the regional ones, the Ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan Afshar Suleymani said in a statement on 22 December 2005.
As Trend reports, «All this, in the long run, will facilitate the prosperity of the both peoples and the regional stability and development”, the Ambassador said.

Commenting on the recent talks of presidents of Iran and Azerbaijan in Nakhchevan, the diplomat said, the sides held efficient and comprehensive consultations, on the results of which the memorandum has been signed, envisioning strengthening of cooperation in the energy sphere, as well as the document, envisioning allocation of the $1million grant for reconstruction of the Tahtakerpyu border bridge.

According to Suleymani, the sides implement a lot of economic projects, being an integral part of the both countries’ energy cooperation. In particular, construction of electrical power station in Ordubad, the transmission line to increase the energy exchange to 700-800 Megawats is planned. The basis for economic cooperation of the both countries is, in Suleymani’s view, just the energy sphere, including transportation of energy resources.

Commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline, in the diplomat’s opinion, may accelerate resolving of the controversial oil fields problem.
