President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov will visit Azerbaijan from November 11 to 13 for a working trip to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Azernews reports.

According to Muratbek Azymbakiev, Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the President's Administration, Zhaparov will attend the Climate Summit's opening ceremony on November 12 and deliver a speech at the plenary session.

On November 13, Zhaparov will also join the “High-Level Dialogue: Promoting the Mountain Agenda and Updating the Issues of Mountains and Climate Change,” organized by Kyrgyzstan alongside Azerbaijan and Mongolia. Other prominent speakers include Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Nepali President Ram Chandra Paudel, and representatives of international organizations.

For the first time, Kyrgyzstan will host a national pavilion at COP29 themed “Kyrgyzstan: Sustainable Mountain Development,” showcasing the country’s climate-related initiatives. The pavilion will feature presentations by Kyrgyz ministries on climate, energy, trade, tourism, and investment. Exhibitions of mountain products, such as honey, dried fruits, and traditional beverages, will also be part of the pavilion’s cultural offerings.

COP29 will open in Azerbaijan on November 13, marking the 29th annual session of the conference. Established by the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio, the UNFCCC aims to prevent harmful human impact on the climate system. The Conference of Parties (COP) is the UNFCCC’s main decision-making body, involving 198 member countries. The first COP was held in Berlin in 1995, with its secretariat based in Bonn, Germany.
