The Commissioner for Human Rights of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman), Sabina Aliyeva, participated in the II International Conference titled “The Right to Return: Advancing Justice for Azerbaijanis Expelled from Armenia,” organized by the Western Azerbaijan Community.
The conference shed light on the tragic history of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis who were forcibly expelled from the territory of present-day Armenia in the past century. Victims of ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, many lost their lives amid these atrocities.
Sabina Aliyeva highlighted her office's efforts to document these crimes through special reports submitted to relevant international organizations. She emphasized the need for global attention to the plight of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia, calling for their right to return without discrimination and with dignity.
The Ombudsman reiterated her appeals on international platforms to address the historical injustices rooted in a long-standing policy of hatred and ethnic cleansing.
