Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov met with a delegation led by Joshua Haque, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States, to discuss various aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States, along with the prospects for the ongoing normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Azernews reports.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reported that the meeting emphasized the historical cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States in several areas. Both sides highlighted the importance of further developing bilateral relations based on mutual interests. Azerbaijan’s hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in November of this year was also recognized, with positive remarks regarding Azerbaijan-US cooperation during the event.
During the discussions, Deputy Minister Mammadov provided an update on the situation in the region following the conflict and outlined the progress made in negotiations for a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Despite significant advancements in these negotiations, Mammadov reiterated concerns over Armenia’s territorial claims against Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, which remain present in Armenia's constitution, legislative acts, and through international organizations and courts. The importance of Armenia abandoning these claims was stressed.
The meeting also covered other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
