Azeri speaker attends 100th anniversary of Russian State Duma

The Speaker of Milli Majlis, Oktai Asadov, address a ceremony held in St-Petersburg in connection with the 100th anniversary of the State Duma.

The Speaker participated in the ceremony to unveil the board and exhibition staged in the Tavria Palace on the occasion of 100th anniversary of State Suma.

The speaker also met with the chairman of the PACE, Rene Van der Linden and informed him about the work done in the direction of the expansion of relationships between Milli Majlis and the PACE.

The Tavria Palace hosted a meeting of the State Duma. The chairman of the State Duma, Boris Gryzlov in his speech informed about the history of the Russian parliament, the development of the parliamentarianism and current relationships.

In his remarks Asadov underlined that 6 MPs were elected to the first State Duma from the Azerbaijani provinces Baku, Ganja and Irevan. The speaker reminded that a Muslim faction was established at the Duma under leadership of Alimardan bey Topchubashov in the composition of 36 MPs. The program of the faction was adopted in the second State Duma and published in the form of book in Petersburg in 1907.

The speaker announced on the development of parliamentarianism and its role in the contemporary period, Trend reports.
