French President Emmanuel Macron decided to impress the
world with his “deep diplomacy” by raising the possibility of recognizing a
Palestinian state. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it a
“terrible mistake” and reminded Macron that neither Hamas nor the Palestinian
Authority has condemned the October 7 massacre.
Yair Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister’s son, responded
to Macron’s remarks on Twitter/X with a blunt message: “Screw you”.
Although Benjamin Netanyahu said he did not approve of the
tone, he supported the essence of his son's message.
The irony is that Macron, while advocating for Palestinian
independence, is in no hurry to grant the same freedom to Corsica, New
Caledonia, or French Guiana. How convenient it is to be a humanist — but only
outside your own country.
With each such statement, Macron loses more and more
credibility as a “peacemaker” and increasingly resembles an outside commentator
who should have focused on solving his country’s internal problems long ago.
