31 May 2006 [08:13] - TODAY.AZ
"Azerbaijan will not send either special representative or delegation to the first gathering of the UN Human Rights Council."

Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Press and Information Policy Office head Tahir Taghizadeh told APA.

"Members of the permanent mission at OSCE office in Geneva will represent Azerbaijan at the first meeting," Tagizadeh said declining to rule out that Azerbaijan will have a permanent representative at the Human Rights Council, "However, this is not the topical question now".

Azerbaijan's candidacy to the newly established UN Human Rights Council was nominated by the Eastern Europe Regional Subgroup. Azerbaijan has been elected member of the Council with 103 votes at the meeting of the UN General Assembly May 9. The first meeting of the Council will be held on 19 June this year.
