Khalaf Khalafov: "It is premature to say whether military alliance KASFOR is for Azerbaijan's benefit"

08 June 2006 [09:41] - TODAY.AZ
Russia's proposal to establish military alliance named KASFOR in the Caspian Sea is being considered by the coastal states.

As Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Kalaf Khalafov told APA, there exist different views and approaches regarding this issue.

"The convention project also concerns security issues. The establishment of KASFOR can be considered and solved in the context of security. However, it is premature to say whether this alliance will be for Azerbaijan’s benefit or not," Deputy Foreign Minister said.

Khalafov also said that the current views on the establishment of the military alliance need to be discussed and coordinated with the items in the convention project.

"Security interests of the coastal states should be taken into account."
