The UN will investigate the facts on massive fires in the occupied Azerbaijani territories

20 July 2006 [15:42] - TODAY.AZ
"The government of Azerbaijan has not presented the UN the facts on massive fires in the occupied Azerbaijani territories caused by Armenians."

"I am sure the UN will investigates the facts presented by the Azerbaijani government," the UN resident coordinator in Azerbaijan Marko Borsotti told media representatives today.

As APA reports, Mr.Borsotti said protection of environment should not be approached from national aspect. Environment and its protection are not ensured in the frames of only one state. This issue concerns a number of states.

"The rivers in the Caucasus start in Turkey and run into the Caspian Sea passing through several neighboring countries. It means, pollution of the rivers directly influences not only Azerbaijan's environment but also the environments of the neighboring countries. In this context, it is very important to prevent the fires. I have much hope that a special commission will be established to deal with these issues after the negotiations between the sides," the resident coordinator said.
