No meetings of Armenian and Azeri leaders expected in nearest future

24 July 2006 [22:29] - TODAY.AZ
One should not expect anything new from OSCE MG U.S. Co-chair Matthew Bryza’s visit to the region, Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian said at joint press conference with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby.

In his words, Azerbaijan should return to the bargaining table. "This will serve as a stimulus for a new stage of the negotiations on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. New proposals do not appear from the air during a week. These documents are should be elaborated in detail and only after this it will become possible to speak something precise," the RA FM remarked.

At that Vartan Oskanian said that no meetings of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents are expected in the near future.

For his part Peter Semneby remarked that it's necessary to urge the conflicting sides to refrain from militaristic statements.

"Calls to resolve the conflict by use of force run counter to the interests of the state that makes statements of the kind. Any statement to settle the conflict by force will affect the amount of investments and jeopardize stability in the region," Semneby said.
