Antonio Guterres: "Our great assistance to Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs would make their problems public"

Stating that he visited refugee and displaced-persons camps in Azerbaijani regions, Mr.Guterres stressed the living conditions are intolerable there, APA reports.

"Azerbaijan has a great number of refugees and internally displaced persons. The world must not forget this. These people are living in very hard conditions. They receive aids from the government and international organizations. But this problem can be addressed by only sending them to their home lands," the UN High Commissioner underlined.

Approving the Azerbaijani government's aids to the refugees and IDPs, Guterres added that the UNHCR in partnership with the Azerbaijani government and other partners is working on programs to send the IDP to their homes.

"We'll help the Azerbaijani government implement Great Returning Plan and improve legislation on refugees. We also discussed establishing a National Refuge System for refugees. Our great assistance to Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs would be making public their problems and preparing a plan for their returning," he said.
