Interior Troops' motorized regiments to take police functions

Informing about the measures for Azerbaijan's becoming the member of the Association of the European and Mediterranean Police Forces and Gendarmeries with Military Status (FIEP), Hasanov said the troops are to fulfill some new functions.

"FIEP membership requires that the Interior Troops are to be militarized, be inside the Interior Ministry or closed as well as be able to prevent sudden cases and function as law enforcement body," he said.

Azerbaijani Interior Troops applied for FIEP membership in 2003, APA reports.
