On the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Washington and New York on September 11, 2001 that left 3,000 people dead, Ilham Aliyev said, "The Islamic world was accused of the horrible terrorist attack perpetrated five years ago, so we should stand together in the fight against terrorism and unite our efforts against it."
Aliyev, whose country is hosting the fifth session of tourism ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), said that the Muslim world had condemned the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
"Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance," he said. "We want to leave in peace and we will achieve it."
Aliyev also highlighted the growing role of the 57-nation OIC and its influence in the world, adding that the Muslim world should use its unity effectively.
