Parliament not to discuss Electoral Code at the autumn session

15 September 2006 [14:49] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani parliament is not going to discuss Electoral Code at the autumn session.

Vice-speaker Bahar Muradova told the APA the elections have recently been over, and the parliament has taken all steps regarding forming the composition of the election commissions.

Ms. Muradova said the electoral legislation might be amended if there are any socio-political needs for that.

"No concrete amendments are expected to be made to Electoral Code. Azerbaijan continues cooperation with relevant committees of the Council of Europe and OSCE in this field. This cooperation envisages remaking of laws and making amendments if necessary. But it is not needed now," she said.

Muradova also noted some parties have not yet chosen their representatives to the election commissions, "The parties should decide this as the time allotted for that might end at the autumn session."
