Problem of former ministers not discussed at meeting of Working Group

Working group for the solution to the problems of political prisoners met with Andres Herkel and Tony Lloyd, PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs.

Human activist Chingiz Ganizadeh told the APA that the representatives of NGO expressed their dissatisfaction at the activity of the working group. But the representatives of the Government said that it is necessary to fix time-limit of the working group.

The sides agreed to hold next meeting of the group in December. Ganizadeh said that NGO will present their proposals on the regulations and agenda of the group.

Then they discussed the problem of political prisoners. The list with the names of over 50 sick and new political prisoners was presented to the co-rapporteurs. There were the names of journalists, Rasim Akberov, businessmen Shamsi Samadzadeh, Tapdig Namazov and other.

The opinions of the sides on the problem of lifer Samadzadeh coincided. They said that the decision of the court was unjust. The working group decided to discuss his problem in the next meeting.

The Prosecutor General and the representatives of Grave Crimes Court are also expected to participate.

The co-rapporteurs agreed to further activity of the working group. They said that if the group solves the problem of political prisoners there will be no need for appointment new co-rapporteurs for Azerbaijan.

It was also mentioned that the group works on bill on Amnesty will it will be discussed in one of the meeting of the workings. They will also discuss the problems of arrested former ministers.
