Minister touched upon the progressive reforms in Azerbaijan, development of the civil society, human rights, freedoms of speech and information, improvement of the justice and judicial system, including the steps to bring penitentiary system in line with modern requirements, and gave detailed information of the Public Committee crated to promote transparency in this field.
Co-rapporteurs expressed their satisfaction with the work done in Azerbaijan to modernize the judicial system and ensure independence of judges. According to them, election of judges in democratic and transparent ways and their training will be the factors strengthening the judicial system. They highlighted the international cooperation in the fight against corruption, and congratulated Fikret Mammadov on his election as vice-president of the International Association of Anticorruption Authorities at its constituent conference held in Beijing.
The meeting also focused on training of judges, advocatory activity, freedom of speech and other issues.
Then, co-rapporteurs met with members of the judicial-legal council. They were informed of the council's activity.
Later the same day, the co-rapporteurs visited some detention facilities. AzerTAg
