Iran, Azerbaijan to launch joint campaign against drugs

Iran is ready to share expertise with Azerbaijan in campaign against narcotic drugs, said Secretary general of Iran's Drugs Campaign Headquarters (IDCH) Fada Hossein Maleki here on Friday.

"Iran is ready to cooperate with Azerbaijan in drugs campaign," Maleki told Azeri Interior Minister Ramil Usubov.

Maleki added that international smugglers are equipped with sophisticated equipment, which necessitates joint campaign against the phenomenon through exchanging related information and experience.

Criticizing the western countries' action in Afghanistan, Maleki added that unfortunately, presence of westerns in Afghanistan encouraged increase in narcotics production.

Azeri Interior Minister, for his part, said, "We are informed of Iran's efforts in fighting drugs and losing many of its citizens in that way."

Ramil Usubov said the two countries should arrange exchange of information by their police on borders, adding, expansion of cooperation in that connection is necessary. IRNA
