Husnu Mahalli noted that the court staff imposing a death sentence on Saddam Hussain was appointed by Paul Bremer, the US Administrator in Iraq and added that the sentence will not influence the process of withdrawal of the US troops from the region.
"Saddam Hussein's trial resembles a comedy. The court was expected to impose a death sentence on the former president. But in case the lawyers appeal, the execution of the sentence is likely to be delayed. This sentence will deepen the chaos in Iraq and quicken the separation of the country. In case the standoff between Shia and Sunni Muslims deepens, the position of regional countries will be important," he said.
Noting that Saddam Hussein's execution will not influence the withdrawal of the US troops from the region, Mahalli added it is connected with the US long-term plans in the region, APA reports.
"The US has long-term plans in the region and to carry out these plans, it will not leave the region," the correspondent said.
