Gianni Buquicchio: "We favor more balanced election commissions"

EU Venice Commission secretary Gianni Buquicchio said the improvement of the Election Code was attained as a result of the cooperation with Azerbaijan. He said that the meeting will be held in December. One of the questions to be discussed at the meeting is connected with election commissions.

Buquicchio said that even the most ordinary amendments are necessary for the improvement of Election Code. "Azerbaijani election legislation may be the most perfect legislation. But everything depends on the application of the law. We favor more balanced election commissions. The opinion of the opposition should be taken into consideration," Buquicchio said.

The expert thinks that the election commissions should be composed of professionals; citizens should respect and trust these commissions. "A lot of countries of the world face this problem. Our election commissions are completely free from the political influences. I am sure that professional election commissions will be set up in Azerbaijan," Buquicchio said.
