US embassy holds roundtable on US elections and election policy

A roundtable, organized by the US embassy in Baku, was addressed by us embassy political officer Joan Polaschik, IFES Azerbaijan Director Dan Blessington, US lawyer Daniel Matthews, MDI Azerbaijan director Eymi Schultz.

PFPA chairman Ali Karimli, deputy chairman Fuad Mustafayev, Democratic Reforms Party chairman Asim Mollazade, Liberal party acting chairman Avaz Temirkhan, Musavat Assembly chairman Sulhaddin Akbar, Hope Party chairman Igbal Aghazade, political analysts Eldar Namazov, Rasim Musabayov, Ilgar Mammadov, right defenders Novella Jafaroglu, Arzu Abdullayeva and Murad Sadaddinov were also invited to the meeting.

Joan Polaschik said that in the elections the citizens expressed their attitudes to the problems appeared in the period of the Republicans.

Dan Blessington spoke of political system and elections tradition of the USA.

MDI Azerbaijan director said the result of US elections embodied the attitude toward the Republicans. He said that this policy needed changing and it raised the foreign policy to the top question of the elections.

He thinks that the Democrat Party should work harder to gain much more support from the citizens.
Daniel Matthews said that the election results reflected the attitude to Iraq war. APA
