OSCE to cooperate with Azerbaijan in carrying out political reforms

Christian Strohal told journalists that he is satisfied with the results of the meeting.

"Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate with OSCE in all spheres. We intend to expand the cooperation with Azerbaijan in carrying out political reforms," he said.

Christian Strohal said the problems concerning human rights exist in every country.

"This problem is typical of every country. The problem is how the society meets these difficulties. It is impossible to solve these problems around the table. If it is so easy to solve the problems concerning human rights, then why do come here? There are several initiatives concerning the establishment of the relations between civil society and officials. We want to realize these initiatives in Azerbaijan," he said.

Touching upon the situation concerning the freedom of media in the country Christian Strohal said he supports OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Miklos Haraszti's position.

"Like Miklos Haraszti, I consider that freedom of media is important for the existence of free society," he said.

Speaking about Azerbaijan's commitments, Christian Strohal said that a part of these commitments have been fulfilled.

"We are ready to help the Azerbaijani government to realize the other commitments. We will discuss the opportunities of gaining more improvement in the forthcoming elections with the Azerbaijani officials and Venice Commission," Christian Strohal said, APA reports.
