26 December 2006 [00:41] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan Republic President Ilham Aliyev in an interview with radio "Eco-Moscow" expressed his country's opposition to imposing sanctions against Iran.

Aliyev in the interview added access to nuclear technology is not prohibited and every country has the right to it and no country should be punished for its effort to access nuclear know-how.

The Azeri president continued, "There is no evidence on producing atomic weapons by Iran."

Aliyev added evidence indicates that international experts do not have any reason to prove Iran's efforts for producing atomic weapons and all statements in this regard are mere speculations about future.

"We have witnessed in the past that such speculations have led to mistakes, so a country should not be punished based on them," the Azeri president added.

Aliyev said imposing sanctions in this concern would not have any results and such actions do not have good outcome for the region.

He expressed his country's opposition to such actions and said "I have declared my stance in this concern and in my view such measures could bear dangers for the region." IRNA
