15 January 2007 [22:14] - TODAY.AZ
Isfahan Armenian apostolic church head Koryun Papyan presented a letter to the US Congress.

The letter claims that Christians have been oppressed since the Islamic revolution in Iran.

The torture against Christians was weakened after the assassination of episcope Hayk Hovsepyan-Mehr and Abbot Tatevos Mikaelyan in Mashed in 1994.

But it has become tensed since 2000. The letter says that after the re-election of Mahmud Ahmedinejadi Christians underwent discrimination in social and economical field.

"Christians were obliged to celebrate New Year in their houses as it was forbidden by Iran’s leadership. We urge international community not to be indifferent to the violation of Christians' rights," the letter reads.

The letter is regarded as Armenians' intention to benefit from the situation amid of USA's possible attack on Iran APA reports.
